Burley Sacked as Scotland Thrashed by Wales

Is Walter set to return to Hampden Park?George Burley has been sacked as Manager of Scotland following the teams 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, it was being widely reported that the SFA are meeting over the next couple of days and as expected they have given the former Ipswich Manager the boot. Burley had been under pressure for some time now having failed to lead the Tartan Army to the World Cup, he just about hung onto his job at the end of the qualification campaign but following the terrible performance against the Welsh the SFA have decided to act quickly.

Burley admitted himself following the defeat to Wales that he was under pressure and that there were no positives to take out of the defeat, they lost with a whimper to a young side that the Scots should at least be able to match on the International stage if not beat on a regular basis.

All eyes now turn to the Next Scotland Manager Betting and VC Bethave reacted to the news by installing Dundee United Boss Craig Levein as the favourite to take the job at Scotland. Levein is well respected in Scotland but it is unclear at this stage whether or not he would fancy trying his hand at International Management as he is doing a good job for Dundee United. Contacts close to The Sack Race believe that Gary McCallister could well be heading up the list of potential replacements at the SFA, McCallister had a spell at Leeds United recently and is currently out of work which means he is likely to be interested in Managing his country into the Euro 2012 campaign.

Other names in the frame at this stage include Walter Smith who is thought to be unsettled at Rangers with his contract up in January, however it is unlikely that Smith would want to return to his old job at the SFA after leaving the Scotland job to return to Ibrox in 2007. Another interesting name in the frame with VC Betis Darren Ferguson who has only recently left Peterborough after leading them to back-to-back promotions and he may be after a quick return to Management although there is a chance that he will be looking for club management to further his experience as he is still a young Manager.
