Nolberto Solano new favourite for Bury jobby Jack Kitson / 16 October 2013, 14:40Tweet
Nolberto Solano has been installed as the new favourite to takeover at League Two side Bury. The Peru and Newcastle legend recently applied for the job and bookmakers' have subsequently reacted by putting him top of the pile, with Bet Victor slashing the 38-year-old's odds from 25/1 to just 5/2.
Solano is still based in the north-east having ended his playing career with Hartlepool last year. He has since coached at non-league side Newcastle Benfield and from June to December 2012 he had a brief stint in charge of Peruvian Primera División club outfit Universitario. However, he is now eager to venture into the murky depths of League Two and inspire a turnaround in fortunes at Bury.
The Shakers axed the under-fire Kevin Blackwell on Monday following a dismal run of seven games without a win, which left them one point above the relegation zone in 21st. Other contenders to take over at Gigg Lane include caretaker manager Ronnie Jepson, former Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean and also John Coleman.
