Sven Goran Eriksson linked with Sheffield United vacancyby Jack Kitson / 16 October 2013, 13:51Tweet
Former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has emerged as a shock contender in the race to succeed David Weir at managerless Sheffield United. The Swede, who has been managing in China at Guangzhou R&F since June, has had his odds cut to just 5/2 (Sky Bet) in the latest Next Sheffield United Manager Betting.
The struggling League One club have been searching for a new boss since sacking David Weir last Friday. The Blades are currently rooted to the bottom of the table and are remarkably without a win since the opening day of the campaign. The recently unemployed Nigel Clough was installed as the early favourite and remains the frontrunner at the top of the pile...but only just with his odds lengthening slightly to 5/4.
Other names in the mix for the Bramall Lane job include Richie Barker (3/1), David O'Leary (8/1) and Greg Abbot (14/1) while former boss Neil Warnock is a 20/1 shot to make a surprise return to the dugout.
