Mauricio Pochettino could leave Southampton in the summerby Jack Kitson / 17 January 2014, 09:44Tweet
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino may have delighted supporters by insisting that he will remain at the club, following the departure of close ally Nicola Cortese, but the 41-year-old has refused to rule out leaving St Mary's at the end of the season.
Pochettino, who currently has 17 months left on his contract, will assess his situation in the summer, which will not fill Saints fans with much confidence. The air of uncertainty means the Argentinian still features in the Premier League Sack Race, although he has drifted 5/1, while the under-fire Chris Hughton is once again the favourite for the chop.
On Saturday Saints make the long trip up to Sunderland for the Premier League's lunchtime kick-off (live on BT Sport at 12:45). Both teams have picked up some form of late, with the hosts winning their last three games in all competitions, while Pochettino's men are looking for their third victory on the trot. Back In November the Black Cats knocked the Saints out of the Capital One Cup, while the sides drew 1-1 in the league at St Mary's in August.
