Nottingham Forest contact Red Bull Salzburg boss Oscar Garciaby Jack Kitson / 17 January 2017, 15:36Tweet
Nottingham Forest have given a big indication on who they are interested in appointing as their new manager after making contact with the representatives of Red Bull Salzburg boss Oscar Garcia, according to the Nottingham Post.
The Reds sacked Philippe Montanier on Saturday in the aftermath of a goalless draw at Birmingham City, and have since been linked with a plethora of managers, with the betting extremely open.
But, if the latest reports are to be believed the Championship club be attempting to lure Garcia back over to England.
Garcia previously managed the second-tier duo of Brighton and Watford, leading the Seagulls through to the play-offs, before stepping down, while health problems meant that he only took charge of the Hornets for four games.
The 43-year-old, who has also managed Maccabi Tel Aviv on two occasions, has been in charge of Austrian outfit RB Salzburg since December 2015, steering the club to the league and cup double last term.
Former Forest boss Billy Davies remains the 5/2 favourite. However, in a poll we conducted it was former Birmingham gaffer Gary Rowett who won 48% of the vote (see below).
The former Derby defender is reportedly unwilling to work under Forest’s controversial chairman, Fawaz Al Hasawi (who can blame him!), although the club have not given up hope and he remains right in the mix at 7/1 (Sky Bet).
Other contenders include the caretaker duo of Jack Lester (8/1) and Gary Brazil (12/1), while Paul Heckingbottom (Barnsley), Michael Appleton (Oxford) and the former Derby boss Nigel Pearson.
