Antonio Conte hot favourite for Italy job following Juventus exitby Jack Kitson / 17 July 2014, 10:17Tweet
Antonio Conte has been hotly linked with the Italy job since his shock decision to leave Juventus on Tuesday. The 44-year-old has emerged as the red-hot 8/13 favourite (Paddy Power) to take charge of the Azzurri (see below for odds), who have been on the hunt for a new manager since Cesare Pradelli stepped down after they crashed out of the 2014 World Cup.
Prandelli opted to make instant return to the dugout after taking charge of Turkish giants Galatasaray, who were previously managed by fellow countryman Roberto Mancini. The former Man City manager was installed as the early favourite to replace Prandelli at the Azzurri, however Conte's sudden availability appears to have changed matters, while another contender, Massimiliano Allegri, succeeded Conte at Juventus on Wednesday.
Conte will no doubt be a very tempting option for the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), as he comes fresh of the back of a very successful spell at the Old Lady, during which he won three consecutive Serie A titles. Conte is a born leader who commands the respect of his players, something which Prandelli failed to do, with reports of unrest emerging from the Nazionale during the World Cup. If Conte does agree to the job then his first task will be leading them through qualifying to Euro 2016, with Italy placed in Group H alongside Croatia, Norway, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Malta.
