Could Gonzalo Higuain reunite with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea?by Jack Kitson / 17 July 2018, 09:22Tweet
Chelsea finally have their manager in Maurizio Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte over the weekend, and now the focus is firmly pinned on potential players he could bring over to Stamford Bridge.
Italian midfielder Jorginho has already been snapped up from Sarri’s former club Napoli - for a reported £57m - while the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Aleksandr Golovin, and Alisson Becker are just three of the many players that are currently being linked with a switch to West London.
Chelsea splashed out a club record £60m on Alvaro Morata last summer, while they added Olivier Giroud to their ranks in January. However, new boss Sarri is believed to be very keen to bring in another striker in Higuain, who flourished under the Italian’s wing at Napoli.
Former Napoli boss Rafa Benitez signed the Argentine from Real Madrid in 2013. The striker spent two seasons under the Spaniard, but his most successful spell came in the 2015/16 campaign under Sarri, which attracted the attention of rivals Juventus who bought him for £75.3m.
During that final Naples season he smashed home a whopping 38 goals in 42 appearances, and won the Capocannoniere - Serie A's golden boot - with a record-equalling 36 goals.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus, Higuain may now be tempted to reunite with former manager Sarri and test himself in England, and if so Chelsea fans will be hoping he thrives in the Premier League.
In terms of players moving in the other direction, the Belgian duo of Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois continue to be hotly linked with a switch to Julen Lopetegui’s Real Madrid, while AC Milan want Morata.
Chelsea are set to make an official offer for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain: new meeting expected this week, the offer will be 60m¤ (approximately). And Daniele Rugani is set to following Maurizio Sarri from Juve to Stamford Bridge. #ChelSarri— Matteo Pedrosi (@MatteoPedrosi) July 15, 2018
