Gus Poyet new favourite for Everton job

Gus Poyet has been installed as the new bookmakers’ favourite for the Everton job after news broke that he has been suspended by current club Brighton. On Thursday the Uruguayan, along with assistant Mauricio Taricco and first-team coach Charlie Oatway, were told to stay away from the Championship side just days after losing to fierce rivals Crystal Palace in the play-offs.
The former Chelsea player had been linked with the likes of Everton and Fulham in the aftermath of the defeat and it now looks like he will depart the Seagulls this summer. The Toffees will now be on red alert, with the 45-year-old now the 5/2 favourite with Sky Bet to succeed David Moyes, who will take over at Manchester United at the end of the season.
Poyet took charge of the south coast side back in November 2009 and guided them to a 13th place finish at the end of the season. In his first full campaign at the helm he led them to promotion to the Championship after winning the League One title. They got off to an electric start to life in the second tier but eventually faltered, finishing in 10th. Last season they enjoyed an impressive campaign, coming 4th, just four points adrift of an automatic promotion spot. However, they were defeated by Palace in the play-offs on Monday and in August will embark on their third consecutive season in the Championship.
