Dave Jones Favourite In Next Portsmouth Manager Betting

Former Southampton manager Dave Jones has emerged as the early favourite in the Next Portsmouth Manager betting market, with short odds of just 1/4. Pompey are on the hunt for a new manager after Steve Cotterill left the club for Nottingham Forest last Friday. The owners have reportedly now drawn up a short-list of potential candidates as they set about finding the right man to take the club forward.
It was an emotional goodbye for Cotterill who was clearly upset at leaving Fratton Park 16 months after joining the club. Despite being in shock from his sudden departure the team united together to put on a strong performance in their 2-0 defeat of Barnsley on Saturday evening, with first-team coaches Guy Whittingham and Stuart Gray taking charge for game. Pompey are now 17th in the league after 11 games and they will now focus on finding a manager with the right attributes to push them up the table.
Dave Jones has been out of work since he was sacked by Cardiff City in May. There is no doubt that the 55-year-old has a wealth of Championship experience but the main question mark centres on whether he would be a popular choice as he has previously managed the club's fierce rivals Southampton. Former Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll is next in the running with odds of 5/1 while Alan McLoughlin and Aidy Boothroyd have been handed odds of 10/1. Guy Whittingham has ruled himself out of the job while fellow coach Stuart Gray is available at 12/1.
