Pressure Eases On Arsene Wenger Following Reading Win

There was finally some good news for Arsene Wenger on Monday night when his Arsenal side thrashed Reading at the Madejski Stadium. The Gunners were under severe pressure to claim the win after a poor run of results and they delivered when it mattered with a 5-2 win over relegation threatened Reading.
Wenger has been stoic in the defence of his team for weeks now despite their poor run of form and he will hope that the Reading win will give them a boost heading into the festive period. Spanish star Santi Cazorla was the star of the show as he hit a hat-trick while contract rebel Theo Walcott was also on the score sheet for Arsenal. That win moved the Gunners back up into 5th place and they now find themselves just two points off of the Champions League places.
It was a result to warm the heart of Arsene Wenger who has made it clear that qualification for the Champions League is always his main aim at the start of every season. It is fair to say that they still have plenty of work to do with Spurs and Everton also in the shake up at this point but it was a step in the right direction. It was a good display against a Reading side who look like they are sliding back to the Championship at the first time of asking after six successive defeats.
Brian McDermott is now under heavy pressure at Reading with the Royals sitting bottom of the Premier League at the moment and it is hard to see where their next point is coming from. The owners will be aware how well McDermott has done over the past couple of years but they are sure to be getting twitchy with the turn of the year on the horizon and the team showing no sign of pulling clear of the drop zone. With that in mind McDermott is being well backed in the Next Premier League Manager To Be Sacked betting and the next couple of weeks could decide his fate with Reading heading to Man City next weekend.
