Jose Mourinho Sacked! Zidane, Conte and Jardim all linked with Manchester United

Manchester United have sensationally sacked Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, in his infamous third season, has had his contract torn to shreds in the aftermath of Sunday’s shambolic 3-1 defeat to leaders Liverpool, a result which left the club 19 points off the pace.

United will now appoint a new caretaker until the end of the season, while Michael Carrick will act as interim manager until an external replacement is found, which is expected to within the next 48 hours.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will inevitably be linked to the position, although it’s impossible to see that happening at this stage of the season. More likely, is one of the out-of-work trio of Zinedine Zidane, Antonio Conte, or Leonardo Jardim.

Mourinho becomes the third Premier League managerial casualty of the campaign, following the exits of Slavisa Jokanovic (Fulham) and Mark Hughes (Southampton), as he leaves United with their worst ever points tally (26) after 17 matches.

The new temporary manager will be tasked with leading the Red Devils to a top-four finish. There’s also a Champions League last-16 double-header against PSG to look forward to next year, while their only realistic chance of silverware could come in the FA Cup, where they face Reading in the third round.

Man Utd Club Statement:

Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.
