Huddersfield Town look to be closing in on a replacement for David Wagner after Jan Siewert was installed as the scorching hot 1/14 favourite to become the club’s next manager.

Wagner left his position by mutual consent on Monday with Huddersfield rock-bottom of the Premier League table, eight points adrift from safety after picking up only 11 points from 22 matches so far this season - winning only twice.

Borussia Dortmund under 23 coach Siewert emerged as one of the early contenders for the post, while the likes of Sam Allardyce, Slavisa Jokanovic, Peter Stoger, and Aitor Karanka have since drifted in-and-out of the betting, whereas Christoph Buhler remains the only serious contender in the betting at 15/2.

Siewert, locked on 2/1 alongside Karanka earlier today, is now a minuscule 1/14 to be the man to step into the Terriers dugout.

The cut in the betting comes after reports emerged that Huddersfield had made an enquiry for the 36-year-old, who is drawing inevitable comparisons to Wagner who managed Dortmund’s youth team prior to his surprise appoint at the John Smith’s Stadium back in 2015.

Siewert, who has managed Germany’s fourth-tier side Rot-Weiss Essen and Germany’s Under-17 and Under-18 teams, has been in charge of Dortmund’s second team since the summer of 2017, succeeding the now Norwich boss Daniel Farke.

But Bild now reports that the clubs are now set to agree on a 300,000 euro compensation fee.
