Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal targets Premier League titleby Jack Kitson / 18 July 2014, 10:10Tweet
The new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has instructed his troops to win the Premier League title in his debut season in charge. The Red Devils are bidding to recover from a disastrous 2013/14 campaign under former boss David Moyes, which not only saw the club finish empty handed, but way down in 7th, and a staggering 18 points adrift off the top-4.
Van Gaal's has arrived at Old Trafford fresh off the back of a successful 2014 World Cup campaign, which saw his lead Holland to a third-place standing, following a 3-0 victory over hosts Brazil. Now, after over a three-year absence, he will now be thrust back into the hustle and bustle of club football at what he describes as “the biggest club in the world”. The Dutchman is used to success having previously won league titles with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, AZ and Ajax, while he has also enjoyed Champions League success with the latter.
The 62-year-old presence in the dugout has significantly raised expectation, with United installed as the ante-post 11/2 third favourites (Paddy Power) to win their 21st top-flight crown. Elsewhere they can be backed at 4/7 to end the upcoming campaign with return to the top-4, while FA Cup success can be found at 7/1, with League Cup glory available at the same price.
