Darren Wassall's future at Derby County up in the air after play-off defeatby Jack Kitson / 18 May 2016, 09:46Tweet
The future of Derby County's interim head coach Darren Wassall is up in the air following the club's play-off heartache against Hull. The Rams agonisingly lost out across two-legs to their Championship rivals, but rued what might have been after conjuring up an heroic fightback in the second-leg at the KC Stadium, only to lose out 3-2 on aggregate.
Now, the club must decide whether to make Wassall their next permanent head coach, or instead search elsewhere. Wassall was placed in interim charge at Pride Park back in February following the sacking of Paul Clement. Under the 47-year-old Derby disappointingly missed out on automatic promotion by a sizeable 11 points, finishing 5th in the table, before losing out to Hull in the play-off semi-finals.
Wassall can currently be backed at 4/1 (Sky Bet) to be the Derby Manager for the first league game of the 2016/17 season, however it's Birmingham boss Gary Rowett who remains the 11/10 favourite for the post. Also in the mix are the likes of Tim Sherwood (4/1), Brendan Rodgers and Mark Warburton (both 6/1).
