Malky Mackay remains favourite for the sackby Jack Kitson / 18 October 2013, 09:44Tweet
Cardiff manager Malky Mackay remains the favourite for the chop ahead of Saturday's daunting trip to Chelsea. Last week the Scot was installed as the new frontrunner in the Premier League Sack Race after the club controversially replaced their head of recruitment Iain Moody with an inexperienced 23-year-old who happened to be a friend of the owner’s son, leading to reports that Mackay was also on his way out.
Despite a boardroom meeting on Monday where the board handed Mackay a number of assurances over transfers, his future remains in doubt, although it would still come as a huge shock if he was axed. The Bluebirds boss led the club up to the Premier League as champions last season and after seven games they find themselves in a respectable 14th-place with eight points to their name, which has included a stunning win over Man City.
Cardiff are heavy underdogs for Saturday's game at Stamford Bridge, with Bet victor pricing the Welsh club at 14/1 to come away with a huge upset. A win would be the perfect antidote to what has been a turbulent week in South Wales, whilst reassuring the owners that the popular Mackay is the right man for the job.
