Martin O'Neill identified as Nottingham Forest's number one managerial targetby Jack Kitson / 19 April 2016, 10:00Tweet
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill is being hotly linked with a sensational return to former club Nottingham Forest after emerging as the new 8/11 (Sky Bet) favourite in the betting.
Paul Williams has been in interim charge of Forest - in a deal running to the end of the season - since the sacking of Dougie Freedman back in March, but is highly unlikely to still be at the helm past May (33/1 long shot with Bet Victor).
O'Neill famously pulled on the Forest shirt for 10 years between 1971 and 1981, making a whopping 285 appearances, hoisting the league title, two European Cups, and two League Cups during what was undoubtedly the club's "Golden Era".
Whats not to like if ONeill came in?nothing like when Stuart Pearce did, proven manager, ties to the club, give him a free reign, win win #nffc— Dave Garner (@Dave_Garner68) April 16, 2016
But now, in a dramatic twist, Forest are attempting to lure their former midfielder back to the City Ground ahead of the 2016/17 season after chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi identified the 64-year-old as his number one target to succeed Freedman.
