Chris Turner Resigns as Hartlepool Manager

Jack Kitson by Jack Kitson / 19 August 2010, 10:28

Chris Turner has resigned from his role as manager of Hartlepool United the club has confirmed. Turner, who had the unique title of 'Director of Sport' at the Victoria Park club but had been in charge of first team affairs since the departure of Danny Wilson in 2008 leaves the club just three games in to the new season and are currently unbeaten having drawn their two league matches and claiming the scalp of Championship side Sheffield United in the Carling Cup.

At this stage it remains unknown the reasons for Turner's decision but it will come as a surprise to some fans of the Monkey Hangers who hold the former Manchester United goalkeeper in high regard following his successful first spell in charge of Hartlepool between 1999 and 2002 which resulted in him leaving to take up the managers job at Sheffield Wednesday. However, after avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, fans may now welcome a change in at the North East club.

First team coach, Mick Wadsworth, has been placed in temporary charge for Hartlepool's trip to Yeovil on Saturday, becoming the twelfth club that Wandsworth has managed. Whether he will be handed the job on a full time basis remains to be seen and may depend on results over the next few games.
