Barcelona Boss Tito Vilanova Set To Step Downby Jack Kitson / 19 December 2012, 12:41Tweet
Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova is reportedly set to step down due to the return of a brain tumour. The 44-year-old, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the summer, had led the Catalans to a stunning start to the league season - winning15 and drawing one of his opening 16 La Liga games in charge. However, he has sadly suffered a relapse of the tumour he had removed towards the end of last year when he was Barca's assistant manager.
Barcelona are expected to make an announcement at some point today (Wednesday) confirming the news, while potentially naming a temporary replacement until the end of the season.
The Spanish giants are currently nine points ahead of second-placed Athletico Madrid at the top of La Liga and have opened up a whopping 16 point advantage over fierce rivals Real Madrid. Meanwhile they are currently awaiting the draw for the second round of the Champions League. Barca finished top of Group G meaning they could face either Arsenal, AC Milan, Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk or Galatasary in the knockout stages.
