Walsall have appointed Jon Whitney as their first team manager on a three-year deal, with the club's former defender Dean Holden named first-team coach.
Whitney had been in interim charge of the League One club since March after the departure of Sean O'Driscoll. The 45-year-old went on to oversee the Midlands' side run-in, leading the Saddlers to a 3rd-place finish, before losing to Barnsley in the play-offs.
The decision to award Whitney, a former physio, as the club's new permanent manager will no doubt be a popular one among fans. The ex Hull player will be tasked with leading his troops to promotion up to the Championship, having been stuck in the third-tier for nine seasons.
