John Terry in shock Exeter City linkby Jack Kitson / 01 June 2018, 16:21Tweet
Exeter City are preparing to embark on a new era after Paul Tisdale opted not to sign a new contract with the club, as he ended his 12-year tenure on Friday morning.
Tisdale, who was the longest-serving manager in English football, leaves the Grecians after losing out in the League Two play-off final for the second successive season.
He’s now expected to take charge of MK Dons.
So who will replace him?
The usual list of contenders have been thrown into the mix at this early stage in proceedings, including the likes of John Sheridan, Mark Warburton, Grant McCann and Keith Curle.
Meanwhile, Matt Taylor and Matt Oakley also feature in the betting.
However, one name we didn’t expect to see was...John Terry!
The Chelsea legend is currently pondering what route to take in football after leaving Aston Villa following the club’s Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham last weekend.
The defender is deciding whether he has another year or two left in him on the pitch, or he may instead be tempted to follow in the footsteps of best bud Frank Lampard, who was named the new Derby manager on Thursday.
There’s been rumours that Lamps could lure Terry over to the Rams in either a playing or coaching capacity, or both, but the 37-year-old may well want to bag his own job in management.
However, Terry may be intrigued to find out that he’s a 14/1 shot to take charge of League Two outfit Exeter.
While Terry has zero managerial experience to speak of, his leadership skills are second to none, and if he can somehow transfer his credentials from the field of play to the dugout, he could have the potential to thrive in the managerial arena.
Mind you, it's a big if.
