Gus Poyet Interested In Chelsea Jobby Jack Kitson / 01 March 2013, 11:53Tweet
According to recent reports Brighton boss Gus Poyet is believed to be interested in returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer. With Rafa Benitez definitely exiting at the end of the season the hot vacancy is up for grabs, with a plethora of managers tempted to step up to the plate and take charge of the 2012 European champions.
Benitez's explosive outburst on Wednesday - where he slated both the supporters and the board - has all but confirmed his departure in May. The rattled Spaniard is under immense pressure and has done himself no favours in criticising the club's fans, despite the amount of abuse he receives on a daily basis. He could even be worth backing to leave before then, with the 52-year-old the new favourite in the Premier League Sack Race.
The race is now on for his replacement at the Bridge, with former boss Jose Mourinho the hot frontrunner in the Next Chelsea Manager Odds. However, it is worth looking elsewhere with Blues legends Gus Poyet and Gianfranco Zola gaining a lot of attention due to their impressive work in the Championship.
Poyet is currently a best priced 12/1 (Ladbrokes) to succeed Benitez. The Uruguayan has expressed his desire to manage at the highest level and he could now be in-line to follow in the footsteps of former teammate Roberto Di Matteo. Meanwhile Zola has worked wonders in his first season in charge at Watford and could be a cheeky punt at 25/1 with Stan James.
