Man United Starting Search For Next Managerby Mick Bates / 20 April 2010, 09:14Tweet
Various reports are surfacing that Man United are beginning their search for a successor to Sir Alex Ferguson who is believed to be considering retirement at the end of next season. Ferguson has been pondering retirement for many years now and it appears that he may call time on his illustrious reign next year with the Scot approaching his 70th birthday. the real work now begins behind the scenes at Old Trafford as the powers that be try to find the man that could potentially replace Ferguson in the hot seat, it will be a huge task for anyone that takes the job as they try to continue the brilliant success the club has enjoyed over the past 20 years.
Sir Alex is sure to have some input himself on who is successor will be and at this stage there are a number of obvious candidates, the Next Man United Manager Betting has been live for some time now and there is a good mix of British and European candidates to consider. The name that keeps popping up is of course Jose Mourinho who has won silverware wherever he has managed which makes him a prime candidate, the former Chelsea man is currently at Inter Milan and is thought to be itching for a return to the Premier League. Mourinho loves a challenge and he would surely relish trying to follow Ferguson which is something that stands in his favour, at the same time though he is not known for hanging around at one club for too long which must surely put Man United off of the Special One.
There are a couple of young Managers across Europe who may be tempted to Old Trafford in Pep Guardiola and Laurent Blanc, both are forging excellent reputations in their own countries and appear to have all the qualities needed. Guardiola has put together a stunning team at Barcelona with Champions League and La Liga titles to his name which makes him an attractive proposition, he also speaks perfect English which could only help his chances if he can be prized away from his beloved Barca. Blanc of course had a brief spell at Old Trafford as a player and Ferguson is a know admirer of the Frenchman, he took charge of Bordeaux and immediately won the title with the club in his first season which was a remarkable achievment.
In terms of potential British candidates to replace Sir Alex Ferguson there are really only two in the frame and they are Daivd Moyes and Martin O'Neill who have both have excellent records at the current clubs and may be ready for that big step up. Moyes has been at Everton for several years now and has produced a fine team with very little money while O'Neil has built a fantastic young team at Villa who are challenging for the Champions League. The worry for both of these would be that they have little or no experience in the Champions league as Managers but they have earned their stripes and it is hard to argue with the fact that they deserve a chance to Manage a top four club.
There are of course a number of other candidates for the job who may well emerge over the next year but the Sack Race has a sneaky feeling that Laurent Blanc could well be one for serious consideration to take over from Sir Alex. Ferguson clearly admires the Frenchman and if he can continue his good run at Bordeaux then he could well see him self heading to Old Trafford next Summer and he is offering good value to punters.
