History could repeat itself for Jose Mourinho in the Premier League Sack Raceby Jack Kitson / 20 August 2018, 10:08Tweet
Jose Mourinho has been installed as the new favourite in the Premier League Sack Race following Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton.
Mourinho was previously priced at 6/1 for the chop, behind Leicester City boss Claude Puel (5/2), however the under-fire Portuguese coach is now the 4/1 frontrunner to become the first top-flight managerial casualty of the season - he previously suffered this fate back in 2007/08 at Chelsea.
In a post-match interview with beIN SPORTS Mourinho’s frustrations were plain for all to see - scroll down for video - as his future at Old Trafford comes under severe scrutiny at this early stage in the season.
Serious questions are already being asked, while the Zinedine Zidane link refuses to go away, with the Frenchman the 2/1 favourite in the Next Man Utd Manager Market ahead of Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti and Ryan Giggs.
Mourinho is now priced at 2/1 to not make Christmas, and 1/2 to not be the United manager come the end of the season.
We may only be two games into the season but the Red Devils are now out at 25/1 to go on and win the title, whereas rivals Man City remains the odds-on frontrunners as they bid to become the first club in 10 years to successfully retain the title.
The spotlight will be pinned firmly on Mourinho a week Monday when his troops host Pochettino’s Tottenham at Old Trafford. Spurs have bagged maximum points from their opening two games, but have lost on their last five visits (in all competitions) to The Theatre of Dreams, a losing streak United will hope will extend to six.
