Chris Beech Eary Favourite For Rochdale Vacancyby Mick Bates / 20 December 2011, 10:46Tweet
Rochdale Youth Team Manager Chris Beech has emerged as the early bookies' favourite to replace Steve Eyre at Spotland. Eyre was axed on Monday following a poor run of results, which has left the club 22nd in League One. Beech has been places in caretaker chargeof the team for the Boxing Day trip to out of form Tranmere and he will be gunning to prove he has what it takes to step up to the plate.
Beech has been installed as the 11/4 favourite with Stan James in the Next Rochdale Manager Betting, while Garry Flitcroft, who manages Northern Premier League team Chorley, is next in the running with odds of 9/2. Other potential candidates include Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman at 6/1, former Barnsley boss Mark Robins at 8/1 and Gary Jones who is priced at 10/1.
Just one win in ten games has left Rochdale in real trouble and as a result they are currently one of the favourites to go down at the end of the season. They have a busy Christmas period coming up with four matches in just 13 days, including a New Years Eve clash with fellow strugglers Walsall. It is unknown whether the board will rush into appointing a new manager or bide their time but if Beech impresses in the short term then he will no doubt get the job.
