Arsene Wenger Now Second Favourite For The Chopby Jack Kitson / 20 February 2013, 09:52Tweet
Arsenal's quest for a first trophy since 2005 is virtually over following a heavy 3-1 first-leg defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League. It follows a shock 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, meaning the Arsenal faithful will now have to continue to wait patiently for at least another season for the chance to end their lengthy trophy drought.
The Gunners' main aim for the campaign will now be finishing in the top four for the 17th successive season. With 12 league games remaining they are currently in fifth place, four points behind fierce north London rivals Tottenham. If they do fail to gain a Champions League qualification spot for next season then there are likely to be major changes made in the summer, with Arsene Wenger's future very much so at the centre of debate.
The under-fire Frenchman has had his odds cut from 100/1 last Friday to just 9/2 (Stan James) as he becomes the second favourite, behind Roberto Mancini, in the Premier League Sack Race. Meanwhile David Moyes remains the bookmakers’ favourite in the Next Arsenal Manager Market.
In the press conference prior to the Bayern Munich game, Wenger looked very much like a man under pressure and that certainly won't have changed.
