David Moyes under pressure ahead of crunch Capital One Cup clashby Jack Kitson / 20 January 2014, 15:29Tweet
Are Man Utd in crisis? A quick flick through Monday’s newspapers and the answer is a resounding yes. Sunday's depressing defeat at Chelsea piled more misery on beleaguered boss David Moyes, whose struggling side have now fallen a massive 14 points adrift of table-toppers Arsenal, while they are worryingly six points off the top-four.
In the aftermath of the 3-1 loss a resolute Moyes refused to pull the plug on United’s chances of retaining their title, although a glance at the latest odds reveals that the Red Devils are now a 100/1 long shot to conjure up a miracle and win the league. Meanwhile Bet Victor have cut Moyes’ odds from 66/1 to 16/1 in the Premier League Sack Race, whereas he is as low as 14/1 with Paddy Power.
The table doesn’t lie and it certainly doesn’t make good reading for United fans who have seen their team lose seven of their 22 matches so far. Furthermore the Reds have now lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, including an FA Cup exit at home to Swansea, and a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland in the first-leg of their League Cup semi-final tie.
Despite all the doom and gloom Moyes still has the chance to win a domestic trophy this season, which would be some achievement considering the widespread criticism he has received. United may have lost to the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light two weeks ago, but they still remain the hot 4/9 favourites (Paddy Power) to progress though to the March Final, while they are available at 12/5 with Sky Bet go on and win the competition.
