Frustrated West Ham fans slam under-fire Sam Allardyceby Jack Kitson / 20 January 2014, 10:05Tweet
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce earned some much needed respite after his side’s victory at Cardiff on 11th January, however a week later and the pressure has come flooding back following the Iron’s 3-1 defeat at home to Newcastle. The result means that the Hammers have sunk back into the drop zone, while Allardyce has returned to the top of the Premier League Sack Race, with Sky bet pricing the 59-year-old at 6/4 to be shoved out of the exit door.
Allardyce blamed the dismal defeat to the Toon on suspensions and injuries, but his excuses are starting to wear thin with frustrated fans. A cacophony of boos greeted the final whistle as the supporters let their feelings be known to Big Sam, who has led his struggling troops to just two wins from 14 league matches since thrashing Spurs at White Hart back in early October.
West Ham’s form at Upton Park has been particularly dire, with the East London side recording only two victories from 11 home games all season. In fact fans have witnessed just one victory on their own turf - a 3-0 win against Fulham - since beating Cardiff on the opening day of the campaign.
On Tuesday the Iron will look to restore some pride when they welcome City to Upton Park for the second-leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final. Two weeks ago the Citizens pummelled the sorry Hammers 6-0 in the first-leg to effectively book their spot in the Final. While absolutely no one is expecting the hosts to pull off the biggest shock of all time, they will however be expected to put up more of a fight on home soil, otherwise Allardyce will be on the brink of the sack.
