Is Curbishley Set For Shock West Ham Return?by Jack Kitson / 21 December 2009, 10:31Tweet
There are several reports and rumours doing the rounds today suggesting the Alan Curbishley could be set for a shock return to West Ham as Manager should David Gold and David Sullivan complete their takeover of the Upton Park club, the move would be a huge surprise for many as Curbs left the Managers seat at Upton Park just 18 months ago in acrimonious circumstances. Curbishley as we all know is West Ham through and through but has been fighting the club in the courts for the last year, winning a case for constructive dismissal to the tune of £2million which as we understand is yet to be paid which could prove a stumbling block for any potential future deal.
West Ham have been struggling near the bottom of the table for most of the season under Gianfranco Zola who has been working on a shoe string budget since taking over, Zola is popular with the fans but any new owner will know the importance of the club staying in the Premier League. Gold and Sullivan left Birmingham recently and it was the worst kept secret in football that they had their sights firmly set on Upton Park, they revealed their hand by making a bid for the club earlier in December and seem to be the front runners at this stage. It is thought that should they takeover the club that they may want to bring in their own man and Curbs could be the one they have earmarked to lead the club to safety as he did when he first took over in 2006/07.
The Sack Race understands that this move is a long way from being a reality with Gold and Sullivan by no means certain of taking over the club which would immediately end the speculation, and with Zola such a popular man there is no suggestion at this stage that any Manager could do better with the resources at his disposal. Curbishley himself is bound to be wary of returning to the club where he got his fingers burnt although it may be a case of head vs heart for him should the opportunity arise.
