Brian McDermott Latest To Be Linked With Wolvesby Steve Claridge / 21 February 2012, 10:09Tweet
Reading manager Brian McDermott is the latest name in the frame according to the Next Wolves Manager betting market. The odds are changing by the hour with the likes of Steve Bruce, Lee Clark and more recently McDermott and Brighton boss Gus Poyet all in the running. Wolves are eager to find Mick McCarthy’s replacement before Saturday’s match with high-flying Newcastle at the Sports Direct Arena but with no clear favourite the club’s quest to find a new manager could take them into next week.
Steve Bruce, who was sacked by Sunderland back in November, met with Wolves owner Steve Morgan last week but opinion is reportedly split on the 51-year-old. McDermott is now the man attracting interest following a successful season at Reading who are currently third in the Championship and challenging the likes of West Ham and Southampton for an automatic promotion spot. Gus Poyet has also caught the eye. The Uruguayan led Brighton to the League One title last season and currently has hopes of a top six finish this campaign. However, the hugely rated manager signed a new five-year contract with The Seagulls earlier this season meaning Wolves would have to pay a hefty compensation package.
Meanwhile former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has ruled himself out of the running. Curbishley initially expressed his interest in the vacancy as he emerged as the early frontrunner in the betting but has since turned down a short contract until the end of the season. Neil Warnock, who was also linked with Wolves, became the new Leeds United manager over the weekend.
