Next Watford Manager Odds Make Sean Dyche Favouriteby Mick Bates / 21 June 2011, 09:32Tweet
Watford's assistant manager Sean Dyche is the bookies favourite to make the step up and become the new manager at Vicarage Road following Malky Mackay's move to Cardiff City. Victor Chandler currently have Dyche available at 11/10, with other potential candidates in the frame including Mark Robins, Phil Parkinson, Brian Laws and Graham Westley.
The hornets begrudgingly granted Mackay permission to speak with Cardiff last week after the Bluebirds had expressed an interest in securing his services. From then on it didn't take long for the two parties to finalise a deal and all of a sudden Watford were managerless. Last season Mackay guided the club to 14th in the Championship and gained plaudits for his managerial style. However, the lure of managing Cardiff and the prospect of gaining promotion to the Premier League proved too much for Mackay, which came as a huge blow to Watford.
Sean Dyche made 72 appearances for Watford between 20022005 and after pulling the curtains on his playing career in 2007 he returned to the club as the under-18s coach. The 39-year-old then became assistant manager two years later in July 2009 after Malky Mackay was appointed manager and now looks set to make a further step up and land his first senior manager's job.
Elsewhere Mark Robins is available at 5/1 to succeed Mackay. The 41-year-old is currently out of work following his departure from Barnsley last month due to disagreements with the board over the club's transfer budget. Robins has since been linked with a number of clubs including Cardiff and Sheffield United. Similarly Phil Parkinson has odds of 5/1 and like Robins is currently unemployed after he was sacked from Charlton at the start of the year. Brian Laws is also one of the leading candidates and is believed to be keen on a return to the Championship following his sacking from Burnley six months ago.
