Mikel Arteta, Andre Villas Boas and Antonio Conte make moves in the next Everton manager marketby Jack Kitson / 22 May 2018, 14:06Tweet
Marco Silva has dominated the next Everton manager market since the Toffees decided not to stick with Sam Allardyce last week.
But while the former Watford and Hull boss remains the odds-on favourite to take up the Merseyside vacancy, a few recent movements in the betting behind him could potentially change the club’s managerial path.
We’re talking about Mikel Arteta, Andre Villas Boas and Antonio Conte, who have all crept into contention.
As we all know Arteta came agonisingly close to landing his maiden managerial job with Arsenal. Providing that there’s not another huge twist, it looks like he’s lost out to Unai Emery, who darted out of nowhere on Monday to snatch the post from the Spaniard’s grasp.
The Man City assistant will be gutted at missing out on the chance to become Arsene Wenger’s successor at Arsenal, but if he’s after a senior position in the Premier League dugout then he could find solace in former club Everton.
With Arteta seemingly on the cusp of signing a contract with Arsenal, he'd subsequently drifted out to 33/1 in the betting to replace Allardyce at Goodison Park, however the events of Monday means he’s now stormed back into contention at 6/1, behind frontrunner Silva (4/6).
Another mover is the former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who was seen hovering around the 25/1 mark a few days ago, only to be backed in to 13/2 to return to England for a third crack at the Premier League.
Louis van Gaal remains in the frame at 12/1, ahead of Antonio Conte (14/1) who is expected to leave Chelsea in the next couple of days.
The former Premier League title winning manager is currently the 6/1 favourite to take charge of Real Madrid, although it’s open to debate whether Zinedine Zidane will still be at the helm next season.
Further afield you'll see Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe who is a 25/1 shot to trade top-flight jobs.
