Tony Pulis Slams Stoke Defence After Poor Runby Mick Bates / 22 November 2011, 10:37Tweet
Stoke City are not enjoying their football at present. Their latest defeat at home to QPR was their fourth on the trot as their miserable recent run continued. Much to the anger of manager Tony Pulis they have conceded a staggering 14 goals in those four matches and have managed only one win in their last eight league games. This is certainly cause for concern. After a bright start to the season the Potters have slipped down to 14th, lingering just three points above the relegation zone. However, despite their poor form and table position Pulis still has long odds of 33/1 in the Next Premier League Manager To Be Sacked Betting, although expect these odds to decrease should his side lose at home to 19th place Blackburn Rovers this upcoming Saturday.
Pulis has been critical of his leaky defence and the manner in which they have let in goals during the last month. Stoke's usually resilient back-line have simply crumbled with the 56-year-old citing a lack of concentration as the main reason behind their sudden collapse. With games against free scoring Tottenham and Manchester City on the horizon it is crucial that Pulis meticulously works on his team's defensive play otherwise they could be on the wrong end of an absolute hiding. To make matters worse for Pulis he has also been fined £10,000 by the Football Association for comments he made about referee Lee Probert in Stoke's Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool last month.
Stoke's next league match is at home to struggling Blackburn this Saturday, which is live on Sky Sports 2 at 12.45pm. Rovers' last gasp equaliser at Wigan last weekend may have rescued them a point and saved manager Steve Kean's skin for yet another week but it also meant that the club's winless run was extended to seven league matches, much to the fury of many supporters. Paddy Power have installed Stoke as 4/5 favourites to break their losing run and win their first league match for over a month, while Rovers are available at 7/2 to get their first win since mid-September. With neither team able to win for love nor money recently a draw priced at 5/2 may be the best way to go.
