Billy McKinlay Shock Contender For Blackburn Rovers Vacancyby Jack Kitson / 22 October 2012, 10:08Tweet
Blackburn's search for a new manager has taken another twist with former player Billy McKinlay emerging as the shock new favourite in the betting. Rovers had an approach for top target Tim Sherwood rejected by Tottenham last week and now appear to have turned their attention to McKinlay. The Fulham coach and assistant manager of Northern Ireland now leads the way in the Next Blackburn Rovers Odds market and is expected to be interviewed at some point this week.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway remains in the mix for the vacancy, however, he has so far failed to be drawn on the speculation and insists he is happy with the Seasiders. Former players Alan Shearer and Tim Sherwood are also still in contention, while both Mick McCarthy's and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's odds have been lengthened.
On Saturday Blackburn's miserable winless streak continued after they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Derby. The Lancashire club have now failed to win any of their last five matches and as a result they have dropped down to 10th in the Championship, two points outside the play-offs. On Wednesday they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Ewood Park. The Owls are currently on a dismal run of form themselves, with no wins from their last nine games in all competitions. Rovers head into the match as the odds-on 4/5 favourites with Paddy Power, while Wednesday can be backed at 7/2.
