Steve McClaren Set for Wolfsburg Sack After Poor Run Of Results

Steve McClaren's European adventure could be coming to an end this Christmas with the former England boss under pressure at Wolfsburg, the team are languishing in 13th place in the Bundesliga and following a cup exit to lower league opposition he now faces the sack. McClaren has built himself a good reputation since leaving the England job with his CV in tatters with the League Title in Holland with FC Twente the highlight, but after leaving for Germany last summer he now appears to be heading back to the job centre with the fans turning against him.
Wolfsburg had been expecting to challenge for the Champions League football having only won the Bundesliga in 2009 but they have fallen way below expectations as the winter break kicks in, McClaren has admitted himself that the club needs change but unfortunately for him that is likely to start with his axing. The defeat to Energie Cottbus means that Wolfsburg are without a win in eight games and the fans were quick to voice their opinions at the boss following the latest dismal defeat. The Sack Race understands that Martin Jol is being lined up to replace McClaren at Wolfsburg with the former Spurs Manager already having success in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, the fact that there is a readymade replacement makes it even more likely that McClaren could be spending Christmas and the New Year looking for work.
McClaren has been busy rebuilding his reputation abroad on the advice of the late Sir Bobby Robson and it appeared to be working a treat before his move to Germany, and it will now be interesting to see how McClaren fares in the job market back in England should he decide to return to the Premier League. England fans will always remember McClaren on the touchline at Wembley in the rain as England failed to qualify for Euro 2012, the defeat to Croatia was the end of his reign and he has had to work hard to shake off that image. He is likely to be in the reckoning for several Premier League jobs over the coming months while the Next Blackburn Manager Odds may be worth keeping an eye in regards to Steve McClaren, which will be especially the case if Steve Kean struggles at Ewood Park having been appointed until the end of the season.
