Malky Mackay and Vincent Tan set for showdown talksby Jack Kitson / 23 December 2013, 10:00Tweet
The mystery and disarray surrounding the future of Cardiff boss Malky Mackay continues to ramble on after the Scot defiantly refused to step down following Vincent Tan's shock resign-or-be-sacked ultimatum last week. Mackay remains the Bluebirds boss for the foreseeable future but is now set for showdown talks with the club's controversial owner.
There was an outpouring of support from the travelling Cardiff supporters before, during and after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool. Tan was also present in the stands and has since performed a dramatic u-turn and withdrawn his threat to send Mackay packing. However, while Mackay no doubt has the full backing of fans, his position in the dugout is precarious, and he is still the hot odds-on favourite in the Premier League Sack Race.
Meanwhile reports today (Monday) reveal that Tan is already locked in discussions with former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson about become the club’s new manager. The Swede can currently be found at 9/4 (Stan James) in the next Next Cardiff City Manager Odds, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains the favourite.
Cardiff are next in action on Boxing Day when they host Southampton at the Cardiff City Stadium. It is not known whether Mackay's future will be resolved by then but, providing he is still in charge, he can expect a hero’s reception from the Cardiff faithful. Both teams are struggling for form at the moment, with the hosts recording just one win in their last seven games, while the Saints are without a victory in six.
