Gareth Southgate Among Next Crawley Town Manager Contendersby Jack Kitson / 23 July 2012, 09:54Tweet
Crawley Town have reluctantly begun their search for a new manager after Sean O'Driscoll ditched them for Nottingham Forest last week, just two months after taking charge. The newly-promoted League One side now have less than a month until they kick-off their 2012/13 campaign and will need to act quickly in order to give their new manager time to prepare for the upcoming season.
Aldershot Town manager Dean Holdsworth and Wycombe Wanderers boss Gary Waddock have been installed as the early favourites in the Next Crawley Town Manager Betting, while Gareth Southgate has also emerged as a shock contender for the vacancy. On Friday the former England and Middlesbrough defender announced that he would be quitting his role as the FA’s head of elite development. Southgate spent 18 months with the FA and was reportedly being groomed for the new technical director job. Speculation is now linking him with Crawley, the place of his birth, but whether he will view it has a possible option is unknown.
Elsewhere Mark Robins is in the mix as is Crawley’s caretaker manager Craig Brewster, with the latter overseeing Crawley's 1-0 defeat of Championship side Peterborough last weekend. The Reds get their League One campaign underway on August 18th when they welcome Scunthorpe to Broadfield Stadium. At the moment they can be found at 16/1 with Paddy Power to win the league and 9/2 to get promoted.
