Memorable Expletive-Filled Manager Meltdownsby Simon Lillicrap / 24 January 2017, 15:55Tweet
Following the revelation that Oldham manager John Sheridan was dismissed by Notts Country due to his insulting outburst on the touchline, we look at some of the most famous manager outbursts in history.
*Warning - Contains strong language!
When Sheridan was sacked, County did not disclose the reason why, however now they have confirmed he was sacked due to his abhorrent touchline behaviour. He was sent off in a 2-0 home defeat and this led to an unbelievable rant at the officials, which included telling them that his kids wouldn’t get any Christmas presents because of them, and threatening to knock the fourth official out. Sheridan has since apologised for his comments, his full rant can be found below.

Pards has been responsible for a fair few touchline bust ups. His head butt on David Meyler led to him being sent off, as did his touchline tussle with Arsene Wenger. However, neither of these were quite expletive enough to feature in this list. We decided to go with the short, but sweet, time where his Newcastle side had a goal disallowed at Man City...
...Pardew proceeded to blame this on Manuel Pellegrini, calling him a “F*****g old c****.”
The video of the angry silver fox can be found below.
In terms of pure quantity of bad language this one will take some beating. Joe Kinnear’s time in charge of Newcastle wasn’t too memorable on the pitch but off the pitch it was spectacular. A press conference that saw him swear 52 times in five minutes took place within his first week of being in the job.
John Sitton is not the biggest name in football management but he did offer the football world something special. This half-time outburst after his Leyton Orient side were 1-0 down at half time. In the video, he sacks one of his players during the break, before offering two others a fight during a spectacular rant. He is probably one of the reasons television cameras don’t get much access to half time dressing rooms...
A couple of clips from Warnock here showing his passionate management style. This clip shows something that happens on the touchline every week, managers abusing officials but the hilarity in this clip comes from the sarcastic comments made by Warnock to the linesman. The second clip (below) is another half time team talk but without quite the same level of abuse that Sitton delivered to his players.
Now this article would not be complete without Ian Holloway. The former Blackpool manager has delivered some humdingers in his time and provided some of the most hilarious press conferences in football history. His rants may not be full of swearing or anger, but they are full of comedy, as seen below.
These clips do make you feel for the officials in charge of the match but managers losing their cool is something that will always happen due to the pressures of the game. With the hilarity of these clips, long may it continue!
