Newcastle United have announced that their manager Rafa Martinez will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
The Spaniard has enjoyed two and a bit seasons at St James's Park and is a fans favourite. The Magpies finished 13th in the Premier League last season and there had been much talk of the discourse between himself and club's owners when it came to funds to help build his squad.
The Newcastle United website crashed following the news, but club tweeted:
It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benítez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on 30th June 2019.
Garry Monk was an early leader in the betting following the news, with that market certain to fluctuate over the next few days.
Benitez's backroom team of Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gomez Perez and Mikel Antia, will also leave the club on 30 June.
The club thanked Benitez for his efforts over the last three years and said that the process to find a replacement now begins.
