Zola Facing Sack At West Ham After Wolves Defeatby Mick Bates / 24 March 2010, 09:29Tweet
Gianfranco Zola is now staring th sack straight in the face after his West Ham team produced a dismal display last night to lose to relegation rivals Wolves at Upton Park, the defeat means that The Hammers have now lost five games in-a-row and face a battle to stay in the Premier League. David Sullivan and David Gold have publicly backed Zola a number of times since taking over the club recently but their patience must now be wearing thin with the likable Italian clearly feeling the heat after the defeat last night.
The manner of the defeat will be the worry to the fans and board as the team surrendered to a team that they should be beating at home, they were outplayed and outclassed by Wolves and Zola cut a forlorn figure on the side line as the boos rung out around Upton Park. The Italian is a hugely popular man but that support is starting to wain with relegation a real possibility with just a couple of months of the season to go, the next couple of games for West Ham will be crucial in their fight for survival. Zola took the defeat on the chin and was happy to take responsibility for the teams performance but the fans have clearly had enough with half the stadium leaving early and the other half staying to vent their anger at the players and Manager.
It now seems inevitable that Zola will either be sacked in the next week or the owners will wait until the end of the season before giving the Italian the boot as they look to progress, Skybethave been watching closely and have opened up the Next West Ham Manager Betting market. Mark Hughes is the man they believe is in poll position and he is an odds favourite to take charge at Upton Park whether it be now or at the end of the season, much of that may depend if West Ham can remain in the Premier League with Hughes unlikely to drop down to the Championship. Other name sin the frame at this stage include Slaven Bilic who is currently in charge of Croatia and is a former West Ham player and Paul Jewell who has been out of work for some time now.
