Craig Short sacked as manager of Notts Countyby Paul Smith / 25 October 2010, 09:06Tweet
League One side Notts County have parted ways with their fairly recently inducted manager Craig Short who took over the manager role from Steve Cotterill less than five months ago when in demand Cotterill left to appointed manager of Portsmouth after declining an offer from fellow Championship side Coventry City. County are currently find themselves sitting in 16th place in the League One table and the 2-1 defeat away from home at Colchester was the last straw for the County board who met the day after the match and decided to remove Short and his assistant manager Dave Kevan with immediate effect.
The Magpies have kicked off this season to a fairly rocky start having played thirteen matches they have only managed to get together 16 points from 5 wins and a draw but as this is their first year in League One following their promotion as Champions of League Two under Steve Cotterill this is only to be expected a quarter of the way through the season, Notts County fans have been quite surprised as to the quickness of the boards decision to relieve Short of his role, many fans openly expressed disappointed in the sacking of a manager who was so early into his tenure and are shocked by the exit of David Kevan as he managed to keep side together last season during the ownership transitions and the Sven debacle.
As for a replacement for the sacked Short, could this position become the poison challis of League One, already the team are on their third manager in year (Hans Backe took over in October 2009 but only lasted 9 games and 2 months in charge).
