Blow for Tottenham as Julian Nagelsmann looks set to become the new Bayern Munich manager

Less than 24 hours after their League Cup heartbreak, Tottenham appear to have been dealt a hammer blow in their hunt for a new manager.

Spurs, currently managed by interim boss Ryan Mason, look like they are going to miss out on one of the most talented and in-demand young managers on the planet, with Julian Nagelsmann set to take charge of Bayern Munich.

“Julian Nagelsmann will be Bayern Munich's next manager as they edge closer to an agreement with RB Leipzig,” reports Raphael Honigstein in The Athletic.

“Current head coach Hansi Flick has made it clear that he wants to leave the Allianz Arena in the summer. And it is understood Bayern have agreed with RB Leipzig's Nagelsmann to take over, with a deal between the clubs now close.”

Nagelsmann, who has been in charge of RB Leipzig since 2019, emerged as one of the early favourites for the Tottenham job following the sacking of Jose Mourinho a week ago.

His appointment would have been a huge coup for Spurs, however the 33-year-old now appears to be Bayern bound this summer, with the club’s current boss Hansi Flick likely to become the next Germany manager.

With three Bundesliga games to play, Flick’s Bayern lead Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig by seven points. Bayern need only one win to secure their ninth straight title, although Leipzig will take a small dose of encouragement from Bayern’s surprise defeat to Mainz on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri remains the bookmakers favourite to take charge of Spurs, ahead of the likes of Nuno Santo, Brendan Rodgers, and Erik ten Hag.
