Could Manchester United coach Michael Carrick be an option for Derby?

Derby County are no strangers to changing managers, either reluctantly or on their own accord.
In the last three years seven different bosses - both permanent and caretaker - have occupied a place in the Rams dugout, a number that is expected to be propelled to eight this summer following the news that the club’s current incumbent, Frank Lampard, is in talks with his beloved Chelsea.
Three of the club’s last six permanent managers have been untested Englishmen in Darren Wassall, Paul Clement, and then Lampard last summer. If history is any indication then Derby’s next manager could be another young upcoming gaffer from these shores.
Michael Carrick comes under both categories. The Englishman, who is currently working as a first-team coach at Manchester United, finds himself priced at an intriguing 9/1 to replace Lampard should he depart for London.
It's Lincoln’s double-promotion winning boss Danny Cowley who leads the way in the betting, ex-West Brom gaffer Darren Moore features, as does the Job Centre’s newest inductee Garry Monk.
But back to Carrick, one of the most decorated English players from the Premier League era. The 37-year-old worked under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, Fabio Capello, and Harry Redknapp during his playing days.
Upon his retirement Carrick stayed on at Man Utd, as part of Mourinho’s coaching staff, and was elevated to first team coach after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival in December.
Last month it was revealed that Carrick will retain his position at Old Trafford, although in an interview last October he announced that he’s keen to forge his own path in the managerial arena.
Should an opportunity now present itself at a club with a history of giving rookie bosses a breakout opportunity, then the chance to manage in his own right could prove too tempting to turn down.
Meanwhile, Carrick’s boyhood club Newcastle are on the hunt for a new manager too, however he’s a 40/1 long shot.
Should Frank Lampard leave Derby could the club opt for another young English rookie in Michael Carrick?

The Man Utd first team coach is a 9/1 shot to take his first steps into management with the Rams.
