Andre Villas Boas new favourite for the sackby Jack Kitson / 26 November 2013, 12:08Tweet
Andre Villas-Boas has been installed as the hot new favourite in the Premier League Sack Race. On Sunday the struggling Portuguese coach saw his odds slashed from 40/1 down to 8/1, however after a flurry of bets he now finds himself as the odds-on frontrunner for the chop with nearly all bookmakers, while Martin Jol has drifted to 2/1.
Spurs sank to a shocking 6-0 defeat to a rampant Manchester City on Sunday, which meant the north London side ended the weekend down in 9th. However, only two points separate them from 4th placed City, while Liverpool and Chelsea are only a further two points ahead.
Their fractured form is very worrying though, with Spurs without a win or a goal in three matches. Much has been made of their offensive troubles as their new signings have failed to make their mark in attack, and now only Crystal Palace and Sunderland have scored less goals in the top-flight.
Despite AVB’s new unwanted position at the top of the Sack Race, sending him packing now would be both a harsh and ruthless decision, although in today’s game it wouldn't come as a huge shock. Tottenham will look to bounce back on Sunday in a pivotal clash with Manchester United, who have a superb record at White Hart Lane, having not lost there in 12 games. Another crushing defeat would almost certainly leave AVB on the brink of unemployment.
