Hans Backe Set for Notts County Postby Jack Kitson / 27 October 2009, 11:04Tweet
Sven-Goran Eriksson's former assistant Hans Backe is on the verge of being appointed the Notts County Manager it is being reported today after the Swede reportedly agreed a three-year contract with the Meadow Lane Club over the last couple of days. Backe was Sven's assistant at both Manchester City and most recently for Mexico and was one of the favourites for the Head Coach role with Sweden that Eriksson himelf turned down recently, he will now be charged with guiding the club to promotion this season. Eriksson was the man who was given the task of finding the new Manager following Ian McParland's sacking recently and it is no surprise that he has found a close friend for the job in Backe.
Hans Backe is by no means a household name in England but he is well known in his native Scandinavia for winning four Danish League titles with FC Copenhagen and Aalborg which will be encouraging to County fans who are eager for success. The 57-year-old Swede will be under pressure from day one at County though as promotion is a must for the big spending League Two side as McParland found out when he was given the chop with the team just four points off the top of the table.
Meadow Lane is going to be an interesting place to keep an eye on over the next couple of months as Hans Backe will be expected to prduce a good looking side that wins matches and more importantly achieve promotion, if there is any sign of them missing out on automatic promotion then Sven may well have to give his mate the sack!
