Breaking News - Alan Irvine the Latest Managerial Casualty at Preston

Preston North End have parted company with manager Alan Irvine just over two years since being appointed and only six months since the Scotsman guided the Lancashire outfit to the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs. Monday's 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United was the final straw for the Preston board who had seen their team win only once in ten outings in the league.
Preston will now look to replace Irvine, who had joined the club in November 2007 having been number two to David Moyes at Everton. As the bookmakers begin to price up possible replacements it's likely that out of work Darren Ferguson, Brian Laws and former player Michael Appleton will be amongst the main candidates. There's even talk of former player Graham Alexander returning to the club in a player-manager role!
