Alan Pardew linked with shock switch to Crystal Palaceby Jack Kitson / 29 December 2014, 10:53Tweet
Alan Pardew has emerged as the shock odds-on favourite for the Crystal Palace Vacancy. The Newcastle boss, who is currently the Premier League's second-longest serving manager, failed to show up for his obligatory media duties on Sunday, which has only fueled speculation linking him with a dramatic return to former club Palace, with whom he made over 100 appearances between 1987 and 1991.
The Eagles dished out the first top-flight sacking of the season on Saturday when they dispensed of Neil Warnock after only four months in charge at Selhurst Park. The Yorkshireman left the Londoners down in 18th place, where they remain under caretaker boss Keith Millen following Sunday's goalless draw at QPR. It will be interesting to see how the Pardew situation develops over the next few days and whether there is any substance behind the flurry of rumours.
As a result Pardew is also the short-priced 5/6 favourite with Sky Bet in the Premier League Sack Race. Meanwhile Alan Irvine (6/5) has become increasingly under-fire at West Brom, having suffered seven defeats in his last nine games at the helm, including the last three in a row. Hull's Steve Bruce is worth keeping an eye on at 14/1 (Bet Victor), while Roberto Martinez is now as short as 12/1 following Everton's disappointing run of form.
