Crawley Town start new manager searchby Jack Kitson / 29 November 2013, 10:01Tweet
The race to become the new Crawley Town Manager is wide open, with little separating Danny Wilson, Steve Cotterill and Gary Alexander at the top of the betting. The League One side sacked Richie Barker on Wednesday amidst strong rumours linking him to the Portsmouth job, combined with poor performances on the field, with the Reds without a run of seven league games.
Sky Bet currently have Wilson and Cotterill as the joint 9/4 favourites, while caretaker boss Alexander is just behind at 11/4, with the 34-year-old striker teaming up with chief scout Martin Hinshelwood on an interim basis while the club search for Barker's successor. The duo's first game in charge will be at Crewe on Saturday, a match Alexander will be desperate to win in order to boost his chances of getting the job on permanently. Other names linked with the job include Mark Allen and Iain Dowie.
Crawley are currently 12th in the league and without a win since mid-October. Furthermore they have only scored once since that narrow win over Bradford, although they are unbeaten in four games in all competitions after recording a win at Hednesford in the FA Cup, followed by three consecutive draws in the league. The Reds can be backed at 11/8 with Coral to conjure up their first win in eight, while a fourth straight draw is available at 9/4.
