Harry Redknapp Under Pressure To Deliver QPR Promotionby Sean Raymond / 02 August 2013, 10:52Tweet
The new Championship season kicks off this weekend and it is QPR who are the favourites to make an immediate return to the Premier League. Harry Redknapp was unable to keep them in the top flight last season but he has stayed on over the summer with promotion now the only target for the club. The fans at Loftus Road will expect the team to hit the ground running but as we have seen in the past, it is very difficult for a relegated team to bounce back at the first attempt.
Redknapp has spent much of the summer trying to offload his highest paid players with the likes of Joey Barton, Loic Remy and Julio Cesar all still on the books at Loftus Road. Charlie Austin has arrived with a big goalscoring record from Burnley and the feeling is that QPR will take all the beating this season. That expectation does also come with a fair amount of pressure though a difficult start to the season will surely see Redknapp come under scrutiny.
The former Spurs Manager does have form in the Championship with a promotion to the Premier League with Portsmouth on his CV. That will be of encouragement to the fans but as Mark Hughes and Neil Warnock found out to their cost, the board at QPR can be ruthless when it comes to demanding the best from their team.
Other Managers who could find themselves under pressure in the championship include the likes of Paul Ince at Blackpool and Nigel Pearson at Leicester. Ince has struggled so far at Blackpool and will need a strong start to the season while big spending Leicester are expecting a strong promotion push this season. We can be sure that it won't take too long for the first Manager to leave their job in the Championship with the stakes at both ends of the table now so high.
