Steve Bruce Set To Be Appointed Sheffield Wednesday Manager

Steve Chambers by Steve Chambers / 02 January 2019, 08:26

Sheffield Wednesday are set to announce Steve Bruce as their new manager later today.

The Owls sacked Jos Luhukay before Christmas and have been carefully looking for his replacement, but it's understood that Bruce is in line for the coveted job at Hillsborough and he will sign on the dotted line on Wednesday.

Bruce started the season in charge at Aston Villa, but was relinquished of his duties earlier in the season after the Villans opted to bring in former Brentford boss Dean Smith as his replacement.

Bruce started his managerial career at Wednesday's rivals Sheffield United and has since racked up a whole host of jobs, so Owls fans will be hoping he can bring some experience to the club as they look to drag themselves up the table.

Two wins and two draws in their last four matches has seen Wednesday recapture some form and they are now ten points above the Championship relegation zone, but Bruce will aim to ignite a second half of the season surge and will be eyeing up the play-offs as an ultimate goal.

Former Owls player Lee Bullen has been acting as caretaker manager as the Wednesday board looked for a replacement at the helm of the second tier club.
