Tottenham approach Ajax boss Frank de Boerby Jack Kitson / 30 April 2014, 09:41Tweet
Frank de Boer has been installed as the new odds-on favourite in the Next Tottenham Hotspur Manager Market following reports that the Premier League club have been in contact with the Dutchman's current side Ajax. Louis Van Gaal’s emergence has the frontrunner for the Manchester United job has forced Spurs to look elsewhere, with De Boer appearing to replace his fellow countryman as their new number one target, while Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino (5/1) and former Red Devils boss David Moyes (6/1) also feature in the betting.
Since he was appointed by Ajax in late 2010 De Boer has won four consecutive Eredivisie titles - plus a Johan Cruijff Shield - which is a record for a manager in the Dutch league. The 43-year-old, who has previously turned down both Tottenham and Liverpool, will no doubt be tempted by the latest approach, although if Spurs do lure the former Netherlands player over to the Premier League they will have to splash the cash as he is contract at the Amsterdam club until 2017.
Tim Sherwood will almost certainly leave his post at White Hart Lane this summer, although the 45-year-old remains adamant that he will be in charge next season, while he has also been critical of managers “touting” for his job. Sherwood has won 12 of his 20 top-flight matches at the helm since succeeding Andre Villas-Boas in December, and still has the chance to lead the north London club to a 5th place finish, and subsequent qualification for the Europa League.
